Cuetzalan, Magic Town
¡Cuetzalan!
iInvite God to visit one day
the land of promise and longing
Stuck between effort and hope
amongst mountains and endless
earth
strange vegetation lit by fireflies
screaming crickets obscuring the
rhythm of silent whispers...
Progresive Cuetzalan is the official name of this attractive "magic town"
meaning "place abounding beautiful feathers".
Cuetzalan "place of precious feathers" or "beautiful place" was one of the Totonac seats won by
Tizoc and invaded in the fifteenth century by Nahua groups. The original languages spoken were
Totonac and Nahua. Castilian was introduced by the Franciscans around 1530.
The program "Magic Town" aims to strengthen
the values of diverse populations in the country.
With approximately 20 towns participating,
Cuetzalan heads the interest and importance
of this crucial cultural project sponsered by
the Tourism Ministry since 2001.
Cuetzalan is located in the foothills
of the Sierra Norte of Puebla. Located
174 kms northeast of the city of Puebla
on road number 129 , connecting with
State Road No. 575-40 minutes Zacapoaxtla, Puebla.
